Melissa says she wants to bake a PECAN PIE for Thanksgiving and I had better get her some PECANs ;) So I called two of my "most favorite people" and asked them if they could help me out.

Two years ago Slina and Leland invited the ROMEOs out to their PECAN FARM and gave us a tour. Leland showed us the whole "tree to table process". He showed us how he SHAKES the tree and them picks them up off the ground, sorts, cleans and packages. For us "city folks" it was quite a treat. (eye opening?) And if that wasn't enough Slina gave everyone dessert. :P

Did you know President Obama ate at We B Smokin' :?:

We always have a big crowd and lots of fun at We B Smokin' No breakfast and they don't open till 11:00 We will eat and then all go to Leland and Slina's for dessert. I hope you can made it Tuesday.

SOME GRAVEL :o :(

I talked to Leland and he says there is about a 1/4 mile of gravel to his farm and, as luck would have it, they graded it this morning.

I am great on gravel  But I am not worried.....FOLLOW ME....or maybe not

We just wanted you to know. Leland really feels bad about it, but we all know there is nothing he can do.Gravel Roads??? Why else does a couple who rode to Alaska have a scooter  It is tough when you live in the country.

After I sent this email out about the gravel, almost instantly I received this reply from Dennis E.

I'll bring my van and haul anyone uncomfortable with the gravel roads. I can also take their pecans up to Overland Park for later pick up.

Man, that is special---

A chilly start to the day and a large group of Romeos still showed up on this mid-November day. We arrived by motorcycle, van, car and airplane! A very interesting tour of the Prothe's pecan farm and there were wonderful pecan desserts, I'm still licking my fingers! Bob

Sorry to be so late in posting my report. Leland had some more sticks for me to pick up ;) Bob K., thanks for taking the above pictures. You have such a good eye and you see so much more than I do. I love the pictures of the pecans. :!: It was 63 degrees, sunny and beautiful on my ride home. We had a bunch of people. I had people giving me counts of 47 to 87. You don't get many days like today this late in the year and everybody seized the opportunity. ;) We had ROMEOs from Southeast Kansas and Eastern Kansas. We had SPYDERsand trikes...welcome first timers Brenda and Steve. We missed the "Polish Prince" but Norm's son rode along to take care of Norm  We had 2 wheelers, 4 wheelers and...a special 3-wheeler. Misty and George went out to take a close look at Dan and Glenda's plane. Everyone got a thrill out of seeing them fly in.and off they go..safe trip you guys!!I wonder who's helmet is wide open as if TALKING  Leland says he never leaves his helmet open  Our sweet little hostess opened the door for everyone and thanked them for coming. Something even gave her a tip. :D Now it was time to head out to PROTHE PEACAN FARM.

(An aside from Roger)
You know I love you guys and I am PROUD TO BE A ROMEO...
IMG_4132.JPG
Well this is one of those things. Yesterday I posted that there was gravel on the way to Prothe's. Before I got my finger of the "enter key" Dennis E. emailed my back and said he would drive his van and take anyone out to Prothe's that didn't want to ride on gravel :o I think that deserves a special ROMEO THANK YOU. ;) I told Dennis that was a wonderful offer, but I doubted that anyone would take him up on it  Oh was I wrong, he filled his van. That brings me to my second point, how proud I was of these folks, to park their bikes and ride with Dennis. Two wheels, three wheels, four wheels or in the Van, it doesn't make any difference to this group, WE JUST GO AND WE WILL AS LONG AS WE CAN...you're the greatest.

Well, we made it to Prothe's and so did our designated "MASCOT". :o A little "plug" for Gold Wings. I led the largest group going to the farm. Everyone wanted to see if I would fall. They knew if I made it...they could make it....and you wondered where Melissa was :?:
As advertised Leland did an excellent job of explaining the Pecan business and he had a very attentive audience. This picture is Leland backing the shaker up to a tree and preparing to SHAKE

and after you shake the pecans to the ground this is how he picks them up.

and this is what he got

LiVida, Paul, Brenda and Steve discussing the finer parts of the pecan. Brenda wanted to know "which end is up" That's the pecans the ROMEOs helped harvest today. As promised Slina provided homemade dessert.YUM YUM and we didn't leave much.Bill picked out the bag he was taking to Butler.
And off we rode, to Hoyt and points beyond.

Thanks for coming today. I hope you had as much fun as I did.
