South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, January 10, 11:00 AM

Post by roginoz »

It looks like good weather for some homemade soup after a short ride, so we're off to Newton, for lunch at the Breadbasket. The Breadbasket has a lunch buffet with eight or nine kinds of homemade soup, homemade bread, and a pretty good little salad bar. They also have a selection of sandwiches, a daily special, and some really good pie. I usually get a big salad and three cups of soup (instead of one bowl; it makes the decisions easier...)

I don't know if we'll be in the front room or the back one; tell then you're with the motorcycle group when you arrive (or just look for the early birds...) The place gets busy around lunchtime, but we'll be ahead of the crowd at 11:00.

Newton is only 27 miles from Wichita, so riding is an option if the roads are dry and you want to bundle up. If it's too cold (or wet,) show up on four wheels.

It looks like we may get lucky. Next Wednesday is supposed to be the warmest day of the week: fifty degrees at 10:00, fifty three at 11:00, and 55 at noon. A predicted high of fifty-nine, before we head back into the deep freeze.

Sure enough, my temperature gauge on the bike registered fifty on the ride to Newton. A bit windy, but nothing we're not used to in Kansas. We had nineteen people, on thirteen bikes, meet at the Breadbasket. I saw a lot of soup being consumed, in addition to sandwiches and salad (and a few pieces of pie.) My lunch was excellent: a big salad with three cups of soup (ham & bean, chicken borchst, and pork chili.) I always go for three cups instead of a bowl; there too many good choices.

No photographs today; Charlie was absent due to the death of his father. Please keep Charlie and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

I'll post next week's ride in a couple of days. We'll probably head south to another cold weather favorite.
