I'm posting this a bit ahead of time, as I'm heading to southwest Colorado on Thursday. I'll be back in time for next week's ride, but I figured I'd better get the ride announcement done in case I want to take a short vacation from the computer as well as the hot weather.
We're into month two of our breakfast rides; there's still plenty of hot weather ahead of us. The long range forecast is currently calling for slightly cooler weather next Wednesday, but I still think it's wise to stay fairly close in.
A couple of the guys were talking about the Breadbasket recently. We've been there for lunch a few times, but I don't recall that we've had breakfast. They have an excellent breakfast buffet: eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, breakfast burritos, french toast, pancakes, potatoes – you get the drift. They don't have a breakfast menu, but the buffet has just about everything you could want and it will get you served quickly. If you don't want the buffet, they have cinnamon rolls and an excellent assortment of really good pie (which they can also pack to go...)
We'll be in the meeting room at the back of the restaurant, just to the right as you come in the door. Order and pay at the counter, fill a plate, and head to the back room. (There are drink dispensers in the back room.)
It's not a very long ride: Newton is only 27 miles from Wichita. You can always find a longer route there or home if the weather turns unexpectedly cooler. (Or sleep in a few more minutes Wednesday morning...)

Went to the Bread Basket in Newton, Ks. But I was the only one there of the Romeos. Turns out they met there for breakfast. I showed up for lunch.

Sorry we missed you kai61. On the upside, I'm sure you found out that lunch at the Breadbasket is pretty good, too. We do breakfast meetings during July and August, to try to avoid some of the heat. Maybe we can catch you next time.

The combination of a good day to ride and having our friends from up north join us resulted in a nice crowd today. We had at least sixty-two people, on sixty-two bikes, show up for breakfast in Newton. The buffet allowed all of us to get served quickly and the food, in my opinion, was very good. (I don't think anyone went home hungry...) The bikes traveled a total of 2226 miles, one way, to the Breadbasket. Charlie will have some photos up soon, and I'll post next week's ride announcement in the next couple of days.
