South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, February 22, 11:00 AM

Post by roginoz »

It's been a pretty mild winter, overall, and next week looks to be really good for riding. Right now, the Weather Channel is calling for a high of seventy-three degrees after a low of forty-seven the night before. It looks like we may be able to do a bit longer ride than we have recently. I could really use some good barbecue, so how about heading to Hutchinson for lunch at Roy's?

I'll put Roy's up against anything in Kansas City or St. Louis. The ribs are consistently good, and they do wonders with the modest Polish sausage (leave the darkest one for me...) There's hot links, pulled pork, and brisket, too. If you want to pretend you're eating healthy at a BBQ joint, the smoked turkey breast is pretty good. (I'm going for ribs and sausage.)

Wednesday is probably one of their slower days of the week, but it still gets busy towards noon. Roy's is barely large enough to hold our group, so we might want to eat and run (or BS in the parking lot) so that the locals can have a place to sit. Try to be there at 11:00 when they open the door to be sure you get a good seat. You'll have to stand in line to order, but they get us served pretty quickly. There's excellent pie at the Carriage Crossing, in Yoder, if you have any room left after lunch...

It's about fifty miles from Wichita to Hutchinson, and a lot closer for those on the northern edge of our area. Gibbo won't even have time to warm the oil in his bike...

It was great weather for riding, and we had out best turnout of 2017. Forty-one people, and thirty-seven motorcycles, showed up in Hutchinson today. The bikes traveled a total of 2057 miles, one-way, to Roy's BBQ. It took a little while for everyone to make their way through the line, but almost everyone had finished eating when I left at 11:45. As always, the BBQ was good and many of us had a little more than we needed. Charlie should have photos up soon, and I'll post next week's ride in a couple of days.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not sure.
