South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, December 7, 11:00 AM

Post by roginoz »

We've been pretty lucky so far, weather wise, but next Wednesday doesn't look very good. Right now the Weather Channel is predicting a high of thirty degrees and a sixty percent chance of snow showers. Probably not the best riding weather, but fine on four wheels. It looks like time to pull back closer to home for lunch.

We've been to Nancy's several times before; the food is tasty and Nancy and her staff take good care of us. They have excellent sandwiches and salads; the Wednesday lunch special is a hot roast beef sandwich. Breakfast is served until 10:30, in case you're one of the guys who arrive early.

Maize is close enough to drive if you don't want to ride in sub-freezing temperatures. The hardy souls can bundle up and ride if it's dry. You need to eat, anyway, and I can guarantee that the food and company will be better than the weather...

It wasn't as cold as was earlier predicted, but still pretty darned frigid. My ST1300 is down for preventive maintenance, so I rode the XR1200 Harley today. The little cafe fairing keeps the wind off my navel, but doesn't do much else; I was glad I had electric gloves and boot insoles for my half-hour ride. We had twelve ROMEOs turn out for breakfast or lunch at Nancy's; three of us rode motorcycles. The bikes traveled a total of sixty miles, one way, to Maize. (Ron was responsible for most of the miles today...) Charlie was there with his camera, so there will probably be a few photos posted later. Next week is looking to be at least as cold as this week, so we'll probably stay in close again. I'll have a ride announcement up in the next couple of days.

We drivers acknowledge the brave fellows that rode in the cold and wind. I am told Ron got snow as he rolled back to Moundridge.
Photos, a few.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not sure.
