North Central ROMEO Weely Ride for 10/25/17

Post by Roadpounder »

Well, we tried this one back on the 4th of this month, but it fell in the middle of monsoon season and only the hardiest among us showed up. I guess that would be Delbert. Somehow I think that nothing short of a nuclear explosion would keep Delbert away. Delbert be da MAN! The weather prophets are promising a warm and sunny day, but I'm prepared for anything. From my flying days I remember the 11th commandment. "Beware of the weather prophets, for the truth is not always in them."

//RED ALERT// My computer screwed up again!! It originally posted the ride on the 27th. I did in fact schedule it for the 25th. Thanks John. Good catch.

The schedule is settled. We will be leaving from Casey's on Ohio and Iron at 11:30

This time the second time was a charm. The weather for our ride to Ike's place turned out to be great. I rolled into Casey's to find John there and it wasn't long before eight others joined us,and by the time we set out our numbers swelled to 10. Terry Powell took the lead and due to the construction on Country Club road he guided us through the high rent district of town. They still had some of the quaint red brick streets. Although these streets do hold a fair amount of charm, they are anything but even. It was more akin to the kiddie roller coaster at the carnival than a modern street. Eventually we circumnavigated the construction and got back on Country Club and over to Old K40 and the race was on to Abilene. There were a good number of bikes there when we pulled in and still more arriving. Ike's place usually draws a pretty good crowd and today was no exception. We drew a crowd of 40. As usual I was the last one to get served after doing the photog thing and on this ride I passed the hat and due to your generosity rendered some substantial assistance in keeping this web site running and up to date. Thanks to all who helped. I placed my order for one of their specialty bacon cheese burgers, sans onions. I never could do onions. My sister can bite into a big Bermuda like I do an apple. The very thought makes me gag. I can do garlic strong enough to walk on it's own, but I can't do onions. When I lived in Georgia it was hard enough to ride past the big fields of Vidalia onions without holding my breath. Soon the order came and horror of horrors, it had ONIONS. After a short deliberation it was determined that I wound up with John Crandall's order. I very willingly relinquished it to him and waited for my meal to arrive. It did arrive shortly and soon I was elbows deep in a delicious bacon cheeseburger and a very generous side of fries. All to soon the time came to head home. Unlike our last trip to Ike's Place I took inventory of what I came with. Last time I walked out without my camera and hit the road without the sign in book. The camera found its way to me before I left but I had to return for the book. On the ride back I fell into the zone again and my mind wandered off to being on the road again. I really miss the road trips I used to take when I was still flying. But the reverie came to an end in my garage and I was welcomed back to reality by two overjoyed dogs.
I hope we get to Ike's Place soon!!
