North Central ROMEO Weely Ride for 9/6/17

Post by Roadpounder »

Here's a place that I don't think we've been to before but I did find mention of it in a post from Richard back in 2012. It comes highly recommended and I've had it on the list for a while now. It looks like we will have another weather day like we did for Concordia last week. :D
On a deeper search I found we have been here once before on 3/23/11.

After determining that there is no way to get there from here, we will have to get there from somewhere else. In any case we will start the trip to somewhere we can get there from at the Quality Inn on west Crawford at 10:30.

TIME....................12:00

Here it is.............. Beaver Brewery at Mo's Place

There was no pulling the wool over Leo's eyes this week. He was on to me from 9:00 on. He knew it was Wednesday and he wasn't letting me out of his sight. Every 10 minutes he was jumping up on me asking if it was time to go yet. I hadn't even gotten dressed yet and he was on me. I went about the odious task of shaking the cobwebs out and bracing to face the day. At that time of day, anything I need to do, no matter how simple or pleasant, seems like an insurmountable task, until the morning fog lifts. I muddled through the morning routine of getting the bike out and ready for Leo. It soon came time to don the riding boots. Leo went ballistic and Fritz started lodging his complaints. Gathering my thoughts I took inventory of all the things I needed for the day. Sign in book, camera, phone, batteries, keys, spectacles, testicles, watch, and wallet. Time to load Leo. The trick is to get Leo out without letting Fritz out. That's where I need the agility of a break dancer. Fritz is bent on going along, so he's right at the gate with Leo. At this point the word “stay” has NO meaning to him. So I have to open the gate and let Leo out and block Fritz with my foot while trying to sneak my rather sizable frame out of the gate. Once outside Fritz launched on his verbal tirade. At this point I'm glad that I can't speak canine. At the Quality Inn we were the first to arrive. Leo got his business taken care of and we wait. About 15 minutes before departure time I start to second guess myself and wonder if I put down the right meeting place. But shortly others start to pull in and it set my mind at ease. Steadily the others arrived until we had an even dozen. Having previously determined that we couldn't get to Beaver from Salina we pondered how we were going to get there. We decided that we could get there if we went to Ellsworth first. So we launched for Ellsworth. Reaching Ellsworth we were joined by Diesel Dave who left a little before us and had just gassed up at the Casey's. We eventually turned north off of K4 until we came to Beaver. Beaver has not yet discovered pavement and some of the streets are rather loose sand, which makes me a little more than nervous. My Italian stallion is never too happy without a firm footing. But slow and steady kept the horizon in place. Again we made up the second wave to arrive, but parking was plentiful. I got Leo settled and he immediately went to rolling in the grass. I got the outdoor shots and went inside to claim a spot and get more shots. Their special was Sloppy Joe with Mac and cheese. I settled for that half expecting Manwich and Kraft. You can believe me when I tell you Manwhich and Kraft it wasn't! These boys put some real effort into their recipe and was seriously tasty. I heard that from many of the others there too. Not being a connoisseur of beer I opted for iced tea. But several others did try the beer and I heard many glowing reports from that front too. Bellies full we began to filter outside and regale each other with our previous exploits and tales of rides gone by. As the crowd thinned, Jerry Jellison and I joined up for the ride back to Salina. We opted to backtrack the way we came, since that was the only way I knew. Coming through Ellsworth I pulled over to see if Jerry wanted to gas up at the last possible place before Salina. I wasn't on reserve yet and he looked confident, so we threw caution to the wind and pressed on. I got all the way to Bavaria before my low fuel light came on. I knew that I had plenty to get back to Salina on and Jerry was right behind me keeping pace. We pulled into the Quik Stop and gassed up and Jerry retrieved his bag from my trunk. I pulled into my garage and was met by a Fritz who was ever so relieved that we were not dead.

Hey just read an article about the Beaver Brewery/Mo's Place.....http://www.hutchnews.com/news/20170823/ ... to-grandma
Different folks own the place now, not the same lady that Louie pissed off when he tried to order out of turn.

I still remember that WICKED-WITCH of the WEST!
She looked at me and I thought she was ready for my order. Little that I knew she only took 4 orders at a time with me being the unsuspected 5th starting to place my order, thus immediately, she chewed my ass out for ordering out of turn!
Next time we ate there Denny from Hutch raised his hand and requested service from this same witch.
Needless to say when I heard this I had to duck down in my seat knowing the terrible wrath that was about to befall poor Denny.
And, it did happen!
This trip should be better.
