I got myself painted into a corner this week. Time got away from me and many of the places I tried to call were closed for the day. Now the weatherman and I are playing chicken. He says big thunder storms on Wednesday late afternoon. So I got us set up for a short ride from Salina. We haven't been here since October of 2015 so they had time to recover from our last visit.

After seconds of deliberation an executive decision has been reached. The Salina group will be leaving from the Iron Skillet at 11:30.

I was recently reminded just how wonderful and inspiring children are. They're so full of wonder and and insatiable hunger for learning the mysteries of the world around them. Case in point, my nephew Connor (AKA Tiny tornado). This week My niece came over to help me out around the house and she of course she brought 1 year old Connor and his 4 year old sister Alexandria. Alex was left to watch Connor while mom and I took care of things. Yeah! That's a good plan! Especially when there's an I-pad to occupy Alex's attention. It seems that Connor took an interest in Newtonian physics. While reeking his usual havoc around the living room, Alex had her nose firmly planted in the I-pad. Connor had discovered that things not supported by something else, fall to the floor. How did he discover this? You might ask. Well he didn't test this theory with a stuffed animal or some other toy. He chose to conduct this experiment on my computer. When I returned to the room I found the computer upside down on the floor. I had the same reaction that I did when my appendix blew. “THAT CAN'T BE GOOD.” I picked the computer off the floor and turned it on. It made all the familiar boot up noises, but the screen stayed ominously dark, with just a slight glimmer of light at the bottom. But the graphics were no where to be seen. Now that very day I managed to sell an old cast iron RR crossing sign that I had laying around since I moved in. Immediately I had visions of the money I got for the sign bursting into flames. I thought of calling a customer who is a computer guru to get some insight but I thought that before I do that I'd shop around and get some prices for a new screen. I did get some relief when I found that they are only about $55. Still hesitating I figured I'd pull the screen out and look for something obvious. The only problem is I have no idea how to take the screen out. YOU TUBE to the rescue! I managed to find a video posted by a guy who had to replace a screen on the same computer. With the help of the video I got the screen out. I didn't see anything that jumped out at that seemed amiss. I unplugged the data strip and reconnected it resecuring it with the original tape. I thought I'd give it a try before I put it all back together and sulked off to cry in my beer. I pressed the go button. LO AND BEHOLD! Graphics began to appear and it went through the full boot up routine. It looked like it was back up and running. It looks like all that happened was that the data strip got knocked loose. My wallet heaved a heavy sigh of relief.

Wednesday rolled around and it came time for the ride to Bennington. It was shaping up to be a good day so I loaded the pet carrier on the bike and let Leo know he was going along. He got quite excited, as usual. I think he was getting a little shack wacky. Again I was the first to the launch pad, but it didn't take long fort he others to file in. When all was said and done we had 16 leave from the Iron Skillet. It was a pretty short ride to Bennington but the weather was warming up quickly. There were storms forecast for the late afternoon, but you couldn't tell by the weather at the time. We rolled into Bennington and met the dawn patrol who was awaiting our arrival. All told there were 32 of us and as usual we pretty well filled the place. Many of the crowd opted for burgers but being the nonconformist that I am I went for the pizza. Leo was outside patiently waiting for some pizza bones. Before I got out, several others brought treats for Leo. All too soon it was time to leave and after I let my meal settle and Leo enjoyed his pizza bone we mounted up and headed for home. Most of the crowd has already left by then anyway. I joined up with Harold Chase and we rode together til he turned off on the freeway and I pressed on through town to home. Fritz was overjoyed to find that he wasn't abandoned after all.

We had riders from Salina, Manhattan, Hutchenson, Minneapolis, Chapman, Denmark, Culver, Lindsborg, and Canton.

We were riding Honda, Harley, Yamaha, Suzuki, BMW, Kawasaki, CanAm, And Moto Guzzi.
