North Central Kansas Weekly Ride 3/8/17

Post by Roadpounder »

This is a new place that had expressed a desire to have us pay them a visit. Wednesday looks to be a pretty good day with a high of 68.

My road trip planner says it should take 1:45 to get there so I think if we leave the Quality Inn at 11:15 that should put us there just about at 1:00.

TIME....................1:00

Here it is.............. Backstreet Bakery

This week has been brutal for me. My niece's little incubator was successful in passing on to me, a virulent pestilence that has stricken me low. I haven't been diagnosed yet but I think I have it narrowed down to one of three. I figure it's either E-Bola, Malaria, or Bubonic Plague. Suffice it to say I've felt like death warmed over for the better part of the last week. Everything from my head to my hips hurts and this is accompanied by incessant hacking and wheezing. Last night I must have gotten about 4 hours sleep, between the pain and wheezing keeping me awake.

On a lighter note we had a great ride to Lucas on Wednesday. I was about the 4th one to arrive at the Quality Inn. It didn't take long for others to start rolling in. We gathered on of the biggest groups to ever leave from Salina. By the time launch time came we had accumulated 17. It looked like a mini Stugis. We shot straight out K140 which quickly incinerated any map that I may have had in my head. Now I'm in full lemming mode. As we merrily motored down K140 we we obliviously passed what I thought would be appropriate northbound turns. We eventually reached Wilson where our intrepid leader finally did make the long anticipated right turn. Not being sure where our destination was I was relieved to see a sign stating that Lucas was 12 miles in my future. Now if memory serves me, there is a meat market in Lucas that makes sausages to die for. With my mouth watering in anticipation we rolled into town. My eyes were darting around searching for the meat market. At last my eyes land on the entrance to sausage nirvana, but my hopes were quickly dashed. OH NO!! They're closed! I was crushed. Pulling myself together I parked the bike and set out on my photo mission. After I got inside a few more rolled in. After all the indoor shots were taken I managed to get my order in and I enjoyed my obligatory bacon cheeseburger and fries. All too soon we were milling around outside again planning our departures for home. Emory suggested some of the back roads but my Guzzi California has a strong aversion to unpaved roads so I passed. We were pondering where to get gas and I figured I could find some on K18 before it was too late. I totally forgot about the Cenex station just outside of Lucas which had the elusive 91 octane. The Guzzi has a discriminating palate. Belly and tank full I settled in for a leisurely ride back to Salina.

We had riders from Salina, Minneapolis, Chase, Cuba, Brookville, Denmark, Culver, Manhattan, Lindsborg, and Canton, With the long distance rider being Jerry Eliers from Manhattan.

We were riding Honda, Harley, Yamaha, Suzuki, BMW, Kawasaki, CanAm, Victory, And Moto Guzzi.

I might be able to make it. I don't have a shirt (Romeo). Do I need one? If the weather looks chancy, I won't go. That includes too windy. I hope it calms down. Where is the Quality Inn?

I hope Roadpounder doesn't mind me answering on his thread. Just in case he doesn't see your post before the ride:

A number of the Salina guys leave from the Sleep in at 3932 9th and ride together. Some people ride to the destinations in groups of varying size, some ride solo. You don't need a shirt to attend, but most of the guys get one sooner or later; the yellow shirts help people recognize the group. Someone in the North Central group can point you toward the shop in Marquette that makes their shirts. You're welcome to use our South Central shirt guy, but you might want the particular style that most of your group wears.

Outback - Richard here,.....I have a few size (L) safety green (yellow) shirts left over from when I was handling them. I'll bring them with me Wednesday and have them avalable If that size will fit you. If not, the Sundry Shoppe in Marquette, Kansas is now handling them for me and a portion of the price goes directly to the Motorcycle Museum. A win win kind of deal!
