Lunch 10:45 AM, May 31, Dinner Bell Cafe, Wetmore, KS

Post by swanee »

To keep our trend of different directions on a roll we'll be going back to the Dinner Bell in Wetmore that we haven't visited since a sweltering day last July. But this time the temps look ideal for riding both in the morning and early afternoon. Also, it looks like maybe the rain chances for Wednesday are dwindling if you look at the right forecast (fingers crossed).

The "10:45" instead of 11 is because they'll start serving us lunch by then and would prefer we come in a little early so it won't get too crowded if the weather is good. They serve breakfast UNTIL the switch to lunch and they encourage the breakfast hounds to come in earlier for that--I'll probably be one of them and they do good breakfast I know from experience. Apparently their meat loaf Wednesday special is so popular it has a following among the locals so they expect to get "pretty busy" with them trickling in when it gets closer to noon.

Either way, breakfast or lunch, you'll be getting a tasty meal and plenty of good ole ROMEO-style BS at:

Ride Report May 31, Dinner Bell Cafe, Wetmore, KS

Great weather (well, at least that's how it started out) and great food pulled 37 bikes in the direction of Wetmore like a magnet before the skies started turning more ominous toward the south. We must have had over 40 people in all when you add a few 2-ups and cagers. Hopefully enough meat loaf was left for the regular customers.

The "scattered" showers that weren't supposed to show up before mid or late afternoon managed to arrive a bit early, but they weren't everywhere they were just pretty heavy between Wetmore and home for some of us. Not to worry--ROMEO's have a solution for that if you want to stay dry or at least not get quite as wet. You simply head in another direction hunting for PIE! Several went east over to Whiting and I tagged along with Royce and Grace to check out Muscotah Mercantile which it turns out has terrific $2 pie.

By the time it was over I guess some actually got rained on, some got a clean bike dirty on wet roads, some just added a little more dirt, and some maybe didn't hit anything wet. All in all a great ROMEO day even if "Wetmore" was "less wet" than a lot of places going home!
