South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, February 8, 11:00 AM

Still winter, but we're inching closer to spring. I'm going to keep us in fairly close, heading to Conway Springs. When we were at the Stock Tank last June, Charlie commented that we should put it on the permanent list. I think most of us were in agreement. The only criticism I had was not being abl...

Spring Rondezvous 2023

For those of you who don't check the other sub-forums, here's a link to the announcement for the Spring Rendezvous. Always a good time, you ought to go if you can. (We'll set up a local ride for the poor souls who can't make the rendezvous...) https://www.romeoriders.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&...

South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, February 1

Next Wednesday is looking to be cold, a low of 19 the night before and a high of forty; we'll stay in close again. We're heading back to the Little Firehouse Cafe in Derby. It's been a full year since we've been there, as I usually save it for cold weather. Little Firehouse Cafe is towards the south...

South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, January 25, 11:00 AM

Still cold next Wednesday, maybe not the best day to ride very far, so we'll head back to one of our winter destinations. It's been a day short of a year since we were at Villar's Mexico Cafe. Close in, good food, and generous portions. We'll be in the back area this time. Ride if you can, drive if ...

South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, January 18, 11:00 AM

Right now, next Wednesday's weather looks dicey. Maybe not frigid, but wet. We'll head for Newton, to Back Alley Pizza, to keep the trip short just in case. We were last there a little over a year ago, and the food was pretty good. They offer pizza, subs, and salads. Back Alley Pizza is just west of...

South Central Lunch: Wednesday, January 11, 11:00 AM

We haven't been to Benton in nearly a year, so let's head out for lunch at the airport next Wednesday. Stearman Field is about twenty miles from Wichita; the food's good, there's plenty of room, and there's a nice view from the south dining room. Ride or drive, based on the weather and your inclinat...

South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, January 4, 11:00 AM

Time for the first ROMEO lunch of 2023. The weather forecast for next Wednesday looks questionable: probably dry but maybe colder than we'd like. We'll keep it in fairly close (again.) If the forecast improves, we can always take the long way there and back. Ride or drive, we'd like to see you eithe...

Gene Bachman

Ron Huxman called early this evening to tell me that longtime ROMEO Gene Bachman died Thursday. Gene hadn't been able to ride with us for quite some time, but many of you long term members will remember him. He was a genuinely nice guy, and we were priviledged to have his company. Godspeed, Gene.

South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, December 28, 11:00 AM

Next Wednesday looks to be the warmest day of the week, but it's still not long distance riding weather. We'll split the difference between Charlie's house and mine, and meet for our final lunch of 2022 at La Hacienda, in Derby. Mexican food sounds good on a cold day, and we've always found the food...

South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, December 21, 11:00 AM

It's been nearly a year since we last visited Cy's Hoof and Horn, in Sedgwick. It's one of our cold weather favorites, and cold weather is what's on tap next week. Cy's is mostly thought of as a steak place, but they have a variety of other choices on the menu. The food is really good, the portions ...

South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, December 14, 11:00 AM

It looks like next Wednesday will be a bit cooler than last week, but it should be sunny and dry. Time to go south, so let's bundle up and head out for some barbeque at Boss Hog's in Winfield. The food and service are very good, and they appreciate our business. Boss Hog's doesn't open until 11:00, ...

South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday December 7, 11:00 AM

Cold again next Wednesday, so we're staying in close again (for most of us.) Boudreux's in Peck is a favorite, but we usually save it for winter or bad weather. We were last there in May, so we're due for a return visit. They have burgers, corn dogs, chicken, and several other choices. Peck is just ...

South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, November 30, 11:00 AM

It looks like next Wednesday will be the coldest day of the week, so we're staying close to home again. Bundle up and ride, or hop in the car. It'll probably be a good day for hot soup and a salad at an old favorite ROMEO spot. The Breadbasket, in Newton, has a great lunch buffet. A good salad bar, ...

South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, November 23, 11:00 AM

Charley mentioned recently that one of the guys had asked about returning to Syl's, in Colwich. We usually save the destination for cold weather, which appears to have arrived. We last visited Syl's in January. Everybody likes the place, the food is good, and they can handle however many of us show ...

Winter appears to have arrived early. It looks like cold and dry next Wednesday, so we're going to stay a bit closer to home. We were at Sugar Shane's about six months ago, so let's head back to Augusta. They like to see the ROMEOs, and the food is always good. Sugar Shane's is located at the corner...

Time to head southwest next week. We'll go to Kristy's, in Anthony, for the pizza and salad buffet. They also have sandwiches and pasta, which are excellent but take a bit longer. (Don't try to eat a “whole” sandwich unless you're a really big boy; the half size is what everyone else calls regular.)...

South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, October 26, 11:00 AM

Charlie suggested returning to the Barn before the weather turned cold; I think he's jonsin' for some chicken fried steak. The food and service are good, and we've always enjoyed our visits there, so it makes perfect sense to me. The aforementioned chicken fried steak is the big draw at the Barn but...

We're bringing back a traditional ROMEO event for next week's ride: Junior's Fish Fry. This year the fish fry will be held at the Twisted Oz Motorcycle Museum in Augusta; good eats and a chance to see an impressive collection of motorcycles. Junior and Shirley will provide fish, hushpuppies, potatoe...
