Re: JUNE 30, 10:00 AM SMOKEY’S BBQ, WELLSVILLE, KS

Al needed to attend a funeral in another town so he called last weekend and asked if I could post some pics at Smokey's. Turned out to be an easy job today getting a picture of everyone there (5) and all the bikes (1). Marvin was camping at Melvern so he suited up and rode over in all the slop. Tha...

For Wednesday July 1...

Looks like none of us who set up rides are going to be available. Given that, and in light of the recent virus surge that is now affecting Kansas, Mick and I talked and decided not to post a "regular" lunch ride for July 1. If anybody else in our group wants to post a get-together of some...

Re: Lunch 11 AM, June 24, SMOKED CREATIONS, Ottawa, KS

Looks like there were 27 bikes and 29 people on a nice sunny summer day not too terribly hot, that had lots of riders heading out with a belly full of BBQ to find some more roads to ride or maybe a road that has a pie stop on it. It wasn't the biggest crowd ROMEO has ever created at Smoked Creation...

Lunch 11 AM, June 24, SMOKED CREATIONS, Ottawa, KS

Instead of the 90's we've about gotten used to before spring is even over, they're predicting a high in the low-to-mid 80's for Wednesday as summer officially cranks up. Sounds good and heard that Smoked Creations would be happy to have a ROMEO group coming back there again whether it be large or s...

Re: Lunch 11:00 AM June 17, Green Acres Restaurant, Vassar, KS

I'm pretty sure we had 20-something maybe close to 30 all told but not an easy count today. Can say for sure we had a bunch of people on bikes enjoying it and that's what ROMEO is about. Got there myself around 9:45 and some were already finished with breakfast and heading out to beat the heat. Oth...

Lunch 11:00 AM June 17, Green Acres Restaurant, Vassar, KS

Last time we went to Green Acres was of course on our traditional day to go there on January 1. It seems like a "way back" time when we thought the worst thing we'd have to put up with in the brand new year of 2020 would be the long windstorm of political hot air that comes at us in a big...

Re: LUNCH 11 AM JUNE 10, COUNTRY HOME CAFE, GRANTVILLE, KS

When I got up this morning I didn't know if we'd have motorcycles today because it was raining and looked on the radar map like it might keep it up most of the morning. Well the rain fizzled out and with the aid of some wind roads dried off fairly well at least around Topeka. So a few of us did rid...

LUNCH 11 AM JUNE 10, COUNTRY HOME CAFE, GRANTVILLE, KS

For June we'll probably be doing some places that aren't real far away and serve breakfast as well as lunch. In addition to spacing the crowd out if we should get one, it should also give most of us a chance to fit ROMEO into the schedule if the distances aren't too long. Some have got things to ca...

Re: Lunch 11 AM June 3, Marilynn's Place, Osage City, KS

Today had 16 people on 15 bikes and that was not a bad "restart" for our group, on a nice but pretty darn hot day for early June anyway. It was a number they didn't have any problems with seating at all since some had breakfast and some had lunch. As we always get at Marilynn's the food w...

Lunch 11 AM June 3, Marilynn's Place, Osage City, KS

Yes this ROMEO favorite is open for business. Darlene said they've gotten a green light from the county for sit-in dining so they'll be glad to have us Wednesday. As usual they serve breakfast until 10:45 then lunch starting at 11:00 and it's all good as we all know. She's familiar with the ROMEOs ...

NO RIDE for Wednesday March 25.

Got some input from Mick and he doesn't think we should be scheduling regular ROMEO meets for at least next few weeks. I guess he's right since our age group has higher risk of something worse than feeling like crap should they come down with the dreaded virus, and some experts are saying it will i...

Re: LUNCH 11 AM MAR. 18, THE SHACK, TOPEKA, KS

Not many people or pictures this time but the burgers are still darn good! Today we had 3 and that's a full half what we had at the Shack last year when it wasn't even a good day to drive a car. Looks like most of our group has decided to "shelter in place" for the time being anyway. I'm ...

Re: LUNCH 11 AM MAR. 18, THE SHACK, TOPEKA, KS

Will call today and make sure they're not closing or doing take-out only like some places. If the Shack is open for business as usual I plan to be there. People our age group especially have each got to make their own decisions about what places to go and not go depending on their health situation ...

LUNCH 11 AM MAR. 18, THE SHACK, TOPEKA, KS

For the final Wednesday of 2020 that is officially "winter" per the calendar if just barely, let's go to a closeby place that's got real good burgers (their specialty) and serves breakfast too. When we went to the Shack last time back in Feb. of 2019 there was ice and snow all over the pl...

Re: LUNCH 11AM MARCH 11, WIND WAGON CAFE, OSKALOOSA KS

We had between 25 and 30 today with most everybody riding as far as I could tell. The vast majority came for breakfast on this really nice day and some were planning to do considerably more riding once they chowed down. A table of guys from Desoto were already finishing up breakfast by the time I g...

LUNCH 11AM MARCH 11, WIND WAGON CAFE, OSKALOOSA KS

Those who've been around ROMEO some years will remember this same location in downtown Osky as Rose's Cafe which is long gone. It re-opened awhile back and is called the Wind Wagon. Now this is not a real huge place, the kind that fit ROMEO groups just fine back in the day. If it rains like at leas...

Re: Lunch March 4th 11am Scranton,Ks

What a difference good riding weather makes. Our first Wednesday in March had the biggest turnout yet in 2020 and I guess the largest since last fall. We had 35 bikes and around 40 people in all. Bucky picked a good location for it! Burgers were just as tasty as promised and though we hadn't been t...
